Annual Conference 2011
News Release

The MHRNC annual conference took place on Thursday 22 September 2011 at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay. This exclusive venue hosted a varied programme including a keynote address, updates from the MHRN networks, guest speakers, afternoon workshops and a poster and artwork competition.

Aside from attracting high calibre guest speakers, the conference facilitated the involvement of key collaborators in Mental Health across the UK and engaged service users and carers from Wales.

Special features of the day were the new art competition and the usual poster competition. The poster competition had two categories and attracted entrants from a range of disciplines across mental health. Please see this link for details of poster prizes: Research Posters

The artwork competition was held as a novel way to engage service users and carers and proved a big success with 16 entries, all producing very unique work of very high quality. The competition was judged by Pembrokeshire artist Alice Tennant. Nerys Price from Hafal won the competition with her outstanding ‘portrait’ drawing. Please see this link for details of artwork prizes: Artwork

The conference was a success, and was enjoyed by both delegates and speakers. Feedback includes:

‘It was an excellent conference, well done to you all for organising it’. (Involving People)

“It was great to go to an event with such a diversity of speakers and attendees. Events like this are essential put us in touch with some of the best experts in the field and help us find out what the topical issues are. I made new contacts in the fields of depression, addiction, eating disorders and met some interesting Psychiatrists – so very worthwhile! (Speaker)

“The day was wonderfully organised and offered me the opportunity to make many connections” (Speaker)

“Very well organised and well run. Thank you” (Delegate)

MHRNC would like to thank all those who contributed to making the event a success, including our guest speakers, workshop organisers, delegates and staff and service users from Hafal and MIND Cymru.
